Section 289 :
Negligent conduct with respect to animal:

Classification of Offence:
Offence: A person omitting to take order with any animal in his possession, so as to guard against danger to human life, or of grievous hurt, from such animal.
Punishment :Imprisonment for 6 months, or fine of 1000 rupees, or both.
Cognizable or Non-cognizable :Cognizable
Bailable or Non-bailable :Bailable.
Compoundable or Non-compoundable : Non-compoundable
By Which Court Triable :Any Magistrate.

Whoever knowingly or negligently omits to take such order with any animal in his possession as is sufficient to guard against any probable danger to human life, or any probable danger of grievous hurt from such animal, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.
State Amendments :
Himachal Pradesh :
After section 289 of the Indian Penal Code, in its application to the State of Himachal Pradesh, the following section shall be added, namely:
289-A. Feeding of Monkeys in public place :
Whoever throws eatables in public place, other than those notified by the State Government in the Official Gazette, and thereby entice monkeys to assemble at such place fro taking eatables which result in causing danger to human life or to be likely to cause injury or annoyance to the public or to the people in general or to cause hindrance in smooth running of vehicular traffic, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one month or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees or with both.
